Latest Purchase – New Sony Vaio Laptop

So I didn’t want to by a new laptop but my Toshiba A200 didn’t really give me a choice. A failed hard drive in the the 16 month old machine means it is sat at PC World waiting to be fixed and a new 250GB (£60) hard drive to be fitted as soon as Toshiba EU decide to get off their arse and send out the £30 replacement restore DVD. OK I know the last part is my fault but why should a DVD send the Europe to the UK cost £30 and why can’t the files be downloaded for free by companies and resellers like PC World? But anyway that kind of gets away from the topic of this post which is the “4-8 week wait for a backup DVD” purchase of a Sony Vaio VGN-FW21E Laptop!

I was sort of hoping for a Dell XPS light shine up on the back laptop like they have on the “Big Bang Theory” but there weren’t any on display so decided to hear what the salesman had to say.

After trying to sell me the model up, the massive £2,500 Vaio with Blu-Ray WRITER we decided on the one in question because:

  • It had 4GB RAM
  • It has a 320GB Hard drive
  • The processor is decent
  • It has a Blu-Ray drive and HDMI output

OK, my interest pretty much ended with he 4GB RAM as that is twice the amount I had in my Toshiba which handled most things easily. The storage was more and I guess the processor was faster than that of the same price laptop I bough almost a year and a half ago. I didn’t really care about the blu-ray player as I don’t have any blu-ray discs but that advantage dawned on me when I got home and looked at my newish HD ready 37″ flat screen Samsung just waiting to be tested. So I guess that i a pretty big benefit and a reason not to buy a PS3 just yet.

All said and done the laptop is performing well with net access, downloading programs I lost of the last hard drive and doing not much else. I still need to install all my software on and really test the performance of running Dreamweaver along side Photoshop, access the net and playing through iTunes which for the price and with he spec I hope it doesn’t have any problems with. I have a feeling if it does it so well or if I want to throw it out of the window any time soon, you guys will be the first o hear about it.
